Music To Code By: Second Edition

From classic oldies and rock to curated DJ faves and artists deep into their own lore, discover what kind of tunes the Camber Creative team have been digging in 2024 in this follow up to our 2022 blog on the team's favorite music to code by.

Gone are the days when workstations were overtaken by silence and a mix of colleague chatter. Working remote (and asynchronous) has its perks, like being able to blast whatever sounds spark joy while you’re coding - or otherwise. Our popular culture blog “Music to Code By: Camber Edition” showcased the Camber team’s eclectic music taste and inspired us to start sharing tunes amongst one another more regularly. Two years later and the team still has a special place for unique music in our hearts. Enjoy the second edition and discover something new and cool to help you jam through your work days!

Jack Gabelmann - Engineering Manager / The Lot Radio Lover

"Lord, so I listen to so much through the year every year. But major notable thanks to Chris Sobray in this latter part of the year. I’ve been pretty religious listening to the variety that can be found on https://soundcloud.com/thelotradio every day. All great DJ’s that get your electronic music fixes but dotted throughout every month are jazzy influences and all sorts of classics."

Chris Sobray - Product Manager / Community Celebrator

"YES. One million percent The Lot Radio! Essentially, it's a spot in NYC where DJs hop in and spin mixes throughout the week. Really great stuff! Also, on the radio aspect I listen to my local radio station religiously and they can be heard worldwide at kuzu.fm . Most live DJ shows are on the weekends and weekday evenings but there's a full lineup on the site and great curated mixes throughout the day. It's a local volunteer-run little studio right off our downtown square with a low power FM broadcast radius of a whole 2.5 miles."

We went ahead and made a Spotify playlist of popular songs for easy listening, but check out Chris’ commentary and additional playlist resources below. When it comes to music, we can count on Chris to share something new, or tell us about a cool music festival he attended in his hometown!

Great artists to get hyped up to:
  • Blood Orange - hip-hop/jazz/electronic fusion - watch his NPR tiny desk performance, it's amazing!
  • The Jones Girls - sweet Philadelphia soul
  • Basketball Shorts - awesome pop-punk band out of Austin, TX
Chill focus time artists:
  • musclecars - dope band out of NYC. hip-hop/jazz/electronic fusion.
  • Part Time - chillwave
Frequent flyer Spotify mixes:

Brice Gramm - CEO / Lover of Lore

I'll keep it simple since I'm profoundly hooked on one particular band right now. It's Sleep Token. All of it. I wasn't sure at first, but after listening to their whole discography, I'm hooked. They have a whole lore that would be very cringe, but for me they have the raw goods musically to get away with it. The band is anonymous and performs with masks and aliases. Their music is about the main character's abusive relationship with a deity known as Sleep. Their shows are called rituals. It's objectively weird, but goddamn. They are really good.

Carla Shaw - VP, Growth & Client Success / Groove-Maker

Carla blessed us all with a seasonal playlist that we are absolutely digging right now. From track ones aptly titled “Booty Swing” to classic Iggy Pop, newer Eminem, and a little Bob Dylan for dessert, you’ll move through dimensions with this groovy playlist. A better work day is guaranteed.

Aliya Al-Balooshi - Growth Strategist II / Fresh Beats Aficionado

Not to blame it on astrology but as an Aries, I’m a bit of a wildcard. I look to my Discover Weekly to wake my ears up and focus during the work day. Something about hearing new music that somehow makes sense for MY week excites me. Plus, I’m always discovering something unique and new to enjoy. A win/win for this fiery music-lover. A few standout artists who have been on repeat lately: Agar Agar, The XX, Wegz, and El Waili. Of course, I still stan Habibi Funk!
